REAL TALK WITH Model & Radio Personality, MARIA MORE
1. What should be some characteristics of a young lady who wants to pursue a career in the radio?
There are many components that will contribute to a young lady's success as a radio pers onality. Here are a few that come to mind: 1) PERSONALITY! You must understand WHO you are and project your best characteristics to the listening audience. 2) CONTENT, you must stay on top of what's happening in the world of music, being involved in your local community and providing listeners with information that will be beneficial to them 3) DETERMINATION, There is a quote by Les Brown that says: "One man's opinion, does not have to become your reality" BELIEVE in yourself, and even when you doubt your abilities, NEVER let your listeners know! Be Confident and Stay Focused at all times!
2. What advice would you give to teen girls with low self-esteem in the school and community?
Understand that you are entitled to happiness. JOY is your birthright and no one can take that away from you! Surround yourself with POSITIVE influences and people who believe in you. Understand that you are not alone and that a Higher Power is working for you. Talk to an adult or mentor that you trust to try and boost your self-esteem when you're feeling low.
3. How can young women get involved in positive programs in their community?
Find out WHO the Community Leaders are. Evaluate your own life experiences and determine how you might be able to help others based on the lessons that you've learned (so far). If you need a mentor, ASK your School Guidance counselor or local Community Center to point you in the right direction.
4. How do you teach teen girls how to stay focused on positive morals in our community and be a positive role model with exposure to negative images in media?
I do my best to help young ladies understand that what they see on TV is only one small part of the BIG picture. Young girls need to understand that they are WORTHY of respect and that they can get attention without compromising their integrity.
5. How can we positively promote young women in the Entertainment?
It must be a COLLECTIVE effort, but the first step is to LEAD by EXAMPLE. We must become the role models that young women seek to emulate. Show them how to be leaders, how to OWN their own business, how to make the right choices and how to love themselves.
6. How should young women handle peer pressure in school?
They should first understand that ANYONE who CLAIMS to be your "friend" would NEVER pressure you into to doing something that makes you feel uncomfortable. I encourage young women to only associate themselves with people who are sincere and have the same goals. When you surround yourself with "like-minded" young women, you are less likely to experience Peer Pressure.
